My artwork is the performance of improvised gayageum minyo using a 12-string sanjo-style gayageum. As a Korean, my love for my instrument compels me to play it to express my deepest emotions and feelings, showing through music what I can ill describe with my words. The process to make minyo is complex, and involves me learning various techniques by examining recordings of gayageum masters and performers. From there I try and apply those techniques to my playing, coming up with musical phrases or connections which I then use to create a full minyo piece. I then refine the piece before playing it and utilizing my skills to the fullest.

Music is the great beacon in my life that lifts my soul upwards. Each pluck of the string of my gayageum coaxes out not only a note but the deepest joy present in the human experience, the beautiful language of music that we all share.
