Q: Should I assign CYA submissions to my class?
A: We applaud your efforts to encourage students to submit to the CYA! We recommend against making a CYA submission required coursework, to ensure that students can enter in the creative discipline they feel most confident in. The CYA accepts one submission per student each year.
Q: The 2027 CYA Entries are capped per submission category. When should my students submit?
A: We encourage students to submit as soon as their creative projects are ready. Since the end of the semester is a busy time for students, we recommend completing the submission well before the deadline. The CYA will close categories to additional submissions if the maximum number of entries for that category has been reached on or before the December 8, 2026 deadline.

Creative Writing: 400
Dance: 125
Film: 125
Music Performance: 125
Original Music: 125
Photography: 800
Visual Art: 800
Submission caps were determined by historic entry numbers in each category and review panel time capacity.
