At the time of this artwork, I was inspired by the Fauvist and Surrealist art movements and I wanted to explore them a bit. Another huge interest of mine is film. Over the summer, I became entranced by the magic of Wong Kar-wai and Andrei Tarkovsky. Hence, you can see a neon color tone in many places of the painting. Just as prevalent, however, is a passionate red that fills up the sky and the center of different glowing orbs. The overall theme of this piece is loneliness: that insurmountable separation. I find myself sharing friendship with everyone, yet not extremely close with anyone. I also wanted to pay homage to a lot of small things like the five secluded trees on the hillside facing my school. Similarly, I often find myself entranced by the sky and the clouds especially. Overall, this piece was a fun exploration into my emotions.
