• Artist Statement

  ”Bad Apple” showcases the desire for something that appears to be beautiful and perfect. Yet beneath the surface, things that have a perfect exterior can be poorly influenced. This piece advises against too much comparison between surface level looks and appearances and instead calls the viewer to consider positive introspection and independence as an individual. For still-lifes and observation-based pieces like this one, I prefer a rigid medium, like color pencil, a precise material that allows me to take my time perfecting small details and executing every curve and angle with the right definition. Through this artwork, I gained a clearer understanding of light sources and color value distinction.

• Creative Statement

  Creativity means allowing myself to explore my thoughts, ideas, and feelings, especially ones that come to me on whim. It also means being able to have confidence in my ideas and my emotions, so that I am able to create a piece that reflects me as an individual.
