This is an arrangement of ”Ex Factor” by Lauryn Hill I’ve been working on for the past year. I wrote the runs at the end and worked hard to showcase multiple strengths of my voice, including belting, legato lines, and phrasing. I began this process with my band at school, where we did a full version. I chose to take creative liberty on my own time so I could develop a new personal and emotional connection to the song and make it my own. Every time I perform this song and arrangement I find a new meaning in it which encapsulates my artistic journey and process.

Creativity to me is finding a new meaning in the music you are performing and making it your own. It’s interpreting source material and reflecting on it in a way that transcends boxes existing in the music world.
