This art piece was imbedded in my mind for a very long time. I kept thinking about art block, and what I drew inspiration from when I was struggling. I realized that my characters themselves are the life blood of my creative heart. With that in mind, I knew my image had to juxtapose realism with cartoonism. I pondered what I wanted to use to represent art block itself. Concluding on a rose, when art block hooks its thorns into you it doesn’t let go. While I don’t have much experience with self portraits or acrylics, I knew I needed to overcome that unfamiliarity in order to make this painting come to life. I decided this needed to be grayscale, to show the life that art block sucks out of a person, leaving them without motivation or drive. Doing this painting made me look at what art block is.

Creativity means expressing my deepest emotions through my art. I pour everything I feel on to a piece of paper or a canvas. Creativity is everything to me without it I would have a large hole in my life and my heart.
