When Starting my first year of high school, there was always one voice pushing me to excel: my grandmother’s. in 2016, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, a disease that ripped away all of her memories. On May 17th, 2024, at her funeral, I sat in a banquet hall surrounded by hundreds of people mourning her loss. I had the privilege of seeing her regularly, but others, who loved her just as much, hadn’t seen her in years. I always knew my grandmother’s impact on me, but that day I realized how much she had touched others. The realization made me sad, but also showed me that others too, were dealing with their grief. Through poetry, I documented my grief, in hopes of sending the message; that it’s ok to be sad. I hope this reaches someone who just needs a little hope.

To me, creativity means passion, emotion, and trust. It is through my creativity and I can peruse my passion of writing. It is through my creativity that I can express my emotions. It is through my creativity, that I can trust the process and trust myself.
