A Beauty First Awoken

Scarlette G.

  • This poem was inspired by The Creation of Adam, painted by Michelangelo, and is one of the best executed pieces of mine, which expresses exactly what I’d hope it would. There is a melancholic mood that reflects the near-desperation of the words being spoken to Adam, and that foreshadowing tone was what I’d strived for since the beginning of the writing process. Originally, this poem was written in Spanish, and I wasn’t confident in my ability to use the translation to convey feeling as efficiently as I did the Spanish version, but thankfully, it all came together.

  • Creativity can fluctuate in its meaning as much as my writing abilities satisfy my creative aspirations. When desire or motivation runs dry, I fulfill my ideas because creativity acts as a motivator. On any occasion, creativity is also a valuable skill, and I want to nurture it within me.
