The worst breakup I’ve ever had was with my best friend. Are We Still Friends? is a film about sentimentality, interpersonal connection, and understanding when it's time to say goodbye. The story centers around two friends who gradually realize that they aren’t fitting into each other’s lives anymore. Both characters react differently, as one attempts to repair the damage while the other aims to close the chapter on their friendship. As I wrote this film, I found myself relating to both characters, and it actually helped me to understand my former friend's perspective better. My hope is that viewers find empathy for each character and can even see themselves reflected in Jess and Alex.
