Before It Was Smoke

I wrote these two poems following a death at the break of winter. For my first poem, I was heavily inspired by the phrase "the hour between dog and wolf", which is another way to say "gloaming", though it can also refer to the transformation of seasons. This theme carries into my second poem, a soliloquy on my long train ride home.

I think of writing poetry as a way to express the humor, grief, and joy of navigating the everyday world.
