Before My Mind

Amanda P.

Acrylic Paint and Canvas

  • This piece is about the mind. I wanted to show the imagination and fantasy aspect of our minds when we think, the forest represents the depth meanwhile the jellyfish are the sting of life/ reality. The seashells represent the gems and sweet moments we cherish. I used mostly red and blue paint to mix my own colors with a vast range of shades to get as much variety as I could. I also used no black paint because I wanted my art to be as vibrant as possible. I layered watered down acrylic to get a water like look on the pond. I also layered paint for the trees to create a look of depth. I painted at least four or five with the darkest first increasing to light. I painted my own original reference prior.

  • To me, creativity means using your thoughts and imagination to make something. It is self driven and can happen when deeply inspired or from feelings. Creativity reminds me of youth and how children can make the most fanatical, wondrous, interesting creations.
