I came upon this abandoned house while on a road trip with my family to Monterey. I only had a moment to capture it out of the car window before we drove away, but I spent much time afterwards wondering about it. Who used to live there? Why was such a grand house left haphazardly surrounded by construction equipment, as if someone had attempted to restore it but given up? I used Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to exaggerate the shadows and highlights, in order to create a sense of mystery and hinting at the life that existed there before.

Creativity is about giving meaning to otherwise unimportant things, and making them personal by connecting them to yourself and others. In photography, it allows us to seek out unique aspects of the world and frame them to tell stories.
