Etude Op 10 No 5

I chose Etude Op 10 No 5 by Chopin as my work because it fits my personality. It moves extremely fast but is playful and still elegant. This etude requires very fast fingers but my goal is making it totally effortless and fun. I tried to relax my wrist and use flat fingers to have them stick to each black key as black keys are smaller. I also voice the left hand chords more as these support melody lines. Throughout the piece, I try to tell the fun story instead of showing off my technique. For example, at the beginning I imagine butterflies and birds talking to each other in the morning. They become more excited toward the middle of the piece as they meet more friends. They have a party and dancing and singing. They are throwing the party spray and my final octave scale ends the party.

Creativity means looking at something I already know in a different way. For example, my etude becomes a story instead of technical study.
