First Step Away

Gouache, colored pencil, papers

  • In this piece, a cat who spends its day sleeping and passing its time inside the house is on its way to go outside as the night falls. The cat seeks adventure outside of its repetitive life of being a house cat by journeying into the unknown. The ripped colored papers and newspapers force the audience to look at the piece with a feeling of reverie. The limitation to the strict use of cool colors contributes to the dreamy nighttime atmosphere. The outside of the window is colored in white, for the audience to fill it with their own imagination. I believe that every viewer has a different perspective and imagination. I wish for them to see the piece with unique viewpoints and come up with their own stories.

  • Creativity is an ability to find a unique way to express oneself and one’s emotion. All people have ways to express themselves but creativity inspires their own ideas so they do not rely on others’. Creativity allows them to find their identity with these ideas as they keep exploring.
