Fly High

Archita K.

This artwork was created using primarily oil paint. The crayon like illustrations are done in oil pastel.

  • Fly High illustrates my personal art journey, showing both my continuities and growth. What began with simple crayon drawings has “flown high” into the detailed paintings I create now. In this piece, toddler me is surrounded by bright pinks and pastel illustrations, emphasizing how the same creativity and vibrance of my childhood continues to influence my perspective as an artist today. On the other hand, the contrast between the realistic portrait and scribbles reflects my technical development. The butterflies further represent the “Fly High” theme, highlighting how my roots continue to uplift and guide my artistic growth. My process began with the portrait (my favorite part!), followed by a textured background done with a palette knife. The pastel illustrations were the final and, ironically, the hardest step, since my younger self would have drawn them in an instant! This painting honors where I began and how far I have come.

  • To me, creativity is originality and confidence. Creativity is allowing yourself to drift from what's expected and be ambitious with what you do. Painting has been my creative outlet for years now, giving me a space to express myself, explore new things, and grow more confident in my artistic voice.
