• Artist Statement

  It poured on my last evening in NYC, so my dad and I decided to cut our sightseeing short and huddled under a building to wait for our bus. To be honest, I wasn’t as taken with the city as I thought I’d be; I preferred the liveliness and modern architecture of SF. However, when it rained, NYC looked so vibrant. The layer of water on the curbless streets, combined with the huge Times Square digital billboards flashing, made the city look like it was bleeding color. I had a mini-photoshoot as the billboard across from me bathed the streets in red, green, blue, and other colors. I don’t usually photograph people, but I somehow snapped this photo. I loved the layered positioning of the three passersby, their reflections, and the words “NEVER EXPIRE Terms Apply” and “New York” in this photo.

• Creative Statement

  Creativity means for me a way to express myself and my thinking, whether for solving a logic problem or artistic pursuits. Experimenting leads to learning curves, but also new and sometimes improved results to what I'm familiar with.
