Near the end of my junior year, I was overwhelmed with stress because of upcoming finals. For my photography class, my final project was to create a series of images that symbolized an abstract concept. I struggled to find any inspiration, so I went out taking pictures of anything: water, rocks, fog, along with older pictures of mine. Eventually, I realized that at that point in my life, if I could visualize my mental space, it would feel lonely and isolated. It would look gray, but still, having an air of exhaustion. I began layering, blending images, combining low contrast images with black-and-white ones. Throughout this process, I spent hours shaping the final image to what I felt like inside. It became a reflection of the emotional state I was in: exhausted and lonely–but ultimately tranquil–capturing the feeling of being lost in the middle of chaos.

Creativity to me means the ability to portray ideas and emotions through not only words, but through any form of artistic medium. Those ideas formed through creativity can help get through or solve problems, both minimal and major.
