I initially started writing this song as a more general sappy yearning love song, it was only during the process of writing the lyrics that I realized I kept thinking of and writing about a friend of mine and her relationship. I hadn't fully realized that I had feelings for her, it just felt natural. So, after a small existential crisis and much personal reflection, I altered the song to be speaking directly to my friend's boyfriend. I wanted to convey my exact feelings which included both complete and utter jealousy and a sort of sad happiness because my friend found someone that makes her smile in a way that I never did. In the end it's still just a sappy yearning love song, however, the writing process was a whole journey. For that reason, this song is really important to me, and I hope you enjoy!
