• Artist Statement

  For this photo, I challenged myself to take a self portrait without showing my actual face. I am interested in experimenting with color and light, so I thought that the vivid colors and brightness of my lava lamp would make for an interesting photo. I used the glass and shape of the lamp to distort my face, showing myself but from a different/warped perspective. Additionally, I took this photo in the dark, with the lamp as the only light source. The colorful light creates an interesting silhouette and portrays a portrait of myself from an almost surreal perspective..

  To me, creativity means expressing yourself in any way you can. It means telling a story about yourself to the world.
