Just Off Franklin

Annabel Y.

  • In my poem, I hope to convey feelings of nostalgia and warmth from the moments that seem to slip by us so quickly. Despite being quick get-togethers, eating lunch was (and still is!) one of my favorite ways to spend time with friends. Visiting this pasta shop used to be a tradition that my friends and I would strictly stick to every weekend between classes, before both of them moved to a different school. Spending my weekends at this restaurant was like a constant tradition, and the shift to nothing at all seemed so abrupt and sudden, which inspired me to make this poem. So no matter the moment, (whether it is something smaller like grabbing food together or something bigger like traveling), I hope this poem reminds us to take a pause and cherish the relationships we have in our lives.

  • Creativity is about blurring the lines between what has already been done and what hasn't been done. To me, it means going out of my comfort zone and writing about moments that are important to me and are relatable to my audience, while still bringing something new.
