This was a piece I made for a prompt about gender and how it is a complex construct in our society. I wanted my painting to be a play on two types of labor, work and childbirth/childcare. I used peaches as a symbol for birth, taken from the folktale Momotaro. And I purposely made the woman hold the basket in a way that looks like she could be holding a pregnant belly. Jobs like taking care of children are undermined in our society. In this painting I wanted to show how both labor as in work and labor from being a mother are both jobs that are difficult and should be respected.

To me creativity is heavily associated with my identity. As long as I can remember I have always been creating in someway. Therefore creativity to me is expressing my life experiences and beliefs though physical mediums like painting, fashion, and writing.
