Legacy in Palms

Betty D.

oil painting

  • While creating this art piece, I didn't have a set idea of what my finished work was going to be. I knew I wanted my work to be focused on unseen workers in my community. My art piece was created in the span of 5 weeks, and each time I sat down to paint I added parts of what I noticed in my community to the work. My artwork primarily focuses on the hands of the laborer's in the vineyards. By weaving a core part of their identity along with the medium of oil paint, I can efficiently illustrate the rough reality of what we see as prized. There is a lot of laborious work that goes into making wine, and we hardly notice it. Therefore, I decided to create a piece on unseen workers.

  • Creativity to me is the story and process surrounding my art pieces whether that is formed at the start, middle, or end.
