memento Mori

Corbin Z.

ink and acrylic on paper

  • This piece, following the traditional motifs of memento mori, communicates directly to the viewer. The piece depicts two skulls, one of a raven and the other a human, as well as a burning candle and a clock. The symbolism extends to the style of the piece itself, an ink blot sculpted into a painting. because more than a reminder of your own ticking clock, the piece serves as a reminder to use the time you have left. Just like a random ink blot, we cannot control what happens in our lives, or when they end. But we can make art of what we have.

  • I have the tools to make art. I am lucky to have been taught the "classical" way to make art. but I find that that opens up so many opportunities to create truly unique art pieces.
