Naivety

Vianna D.

Chalk pastel, crayon, color pencil

  • Middle school was a difficult time for me, even most adults I’ve talked to would agree it was worse than high-school. In my artwork, I wanted to highlight the melancholic and complex emotions that are experienced during this period of transition in our lives, when we drop the picture books and check out textbooks instead. Middle school is confusing and stressful, yet it is in such an early period of life where one can’t quite comprehend of difficult life can get. But perhaps these feelings come across as naive, after all, middle school is far from the end of the road, and life could get so much harder.

  • Sending a message through art that goes beyond the superficial level and speaks to one’s soul. I want to evoke strong emotions through my artwork using unique and striking imagery. To me, tears are the best compliment.
