Ohana

This piece of creative, nonfiction writing expresses the emotional toll leaving my home in Hawaii took on me as a six-year-old child. It captures scenes and memories from my final day on the islands—moments that have stayed with me all of these years. It also shows how that moment laid the foundation for my future—how I learned that even though I was leaving Hawaii, the culture and love I grew up with there would always be a part of me. That spirit of ohana continues to shape who I am today. It is something I’m grateful for and proud of as I continue my journey in life.
