This piece is a raw reflection of the immense academic pressure and the intense achievement culture that I, and many other teens, feel growing up in Silicon Valley. I wanted to incorporate aspects of my own personal interests, such as engineering and robotics, into the story. This piece follows a teenager named Madison as she navigates a morally difficult decision while interning at a prestigious engineering company. Details in Madison’s story mirror several recent high-profile Silicon Valley young entrepreneurs whose questionable ethics eventually led to their demise. I also took inspiration from various experiences and stories in my life and the many books that I have read and enjoyed.

Creativity means expressing my experiences in the world without the fear of being judged. For me, creativity comes in many forms, whether it is baking, writing, or even coding. It is a way for me to connect with others in a meaningful way, so I believe creativity should be shared.
