Rooftops of Guilin

  • I hiked to the top of Diecai Hill in Guilin, China. I wasn’t even sure I’d make it because it was so hot but I kept going. On the way up, I saw some monkeys and had to keep my distance so they wouldn’t attack me. At the top, there was a Chinese flag, and a few people were taking photos. I wasn’t planning to take out my camera at first, because it was a tourist stop. I started taking a panorama and tried some new photography ideas, like filling the frame. I noticed I could do that with the roofs of the buildings below. Before the trip, I looked at the area on Google Maps back home in San Francisco and noticed something unique. All the roofs were blue. So when I took the photos, I kept that in mind because I thought it looked really cool.

  • Creativity to me means mixing skills with my own style and turning ideas into something I like.
