This self-portrait allowed me to examine myself and capture my identity through painting. I wanted to draw myself because I felt it would be more personal. I painted myself in my everyday clothes, with my favorite jacket, and in a friendly pose. I wanted to challenge myself in a moving pose, and at school, I'm known to great students and staff, whom I bump into before and after school. The mediums I gravitate towards are primarily pencil and paper. This is the most detailed painting that I've done in this scale. I learned how to shade and add details with a medium I wasn’t very familiar with. Overall, this artwork gave me insight into my technique and areas for improvement. It inspired me to look further into portraiture and the value of seeing people and getting a glimpse of how they perceive themselves.

Creativity is important to me because it serves as an outlet through which we express ourselves and connect with others. Creativity is a tool that enables others to find community, persevere through hardships, and share their thoughts. I use it to capture my ideas and to reflect on my progress.
