Self-taught

Estella L.

Oil Pastel and color pencil

  • I made this piece based off my own experience as a black girl who plays guitar. Personally, there are not a lot of other black musicians to look up to compared to all of the white guitarists in the world. I taught myself how to play, and I wanted to capture that feeling for other black girls who have taught themselves how to do things. I used a picture of myself as a reference to this piece.

  • Creativity is extremely important to me because I have been taught at a young age to be creative. My father is also an artist, and he both inspired and taught me to be my own person, which has influenced my art greatly.
