Serenade to a Cuckoo - Rahsaan Roland Kirk

Sola G.

  • We learned this tune one day over the summer when we decided that we would play whatever tune we landed on by flipping to a random page in the Real Book. We were instantly drawn into this tune's simple yet witty nature. Rahsaan Roland Kirk was a master at playing multiple wind instruments (sometimes simultaneously) to create different sounds in any given tune. We were inspired to make our own cuckoo calls and mess around with each other musically by trading jokes.

  • Creativity is about knowing what it is that you want to express and having the tools to say it.
