• Artist Statement

  In the photograph, my mother gazes at her hand, and her shadow becomes a reminder of everything she left behind in Mexico. The contrast of light and shadow shows the tension between the past and the future she worked to build in the untied States. This photograph has become more meaningful to me as we see people from my community being dehumanized. My mother’s presence in this photograph is a reminder of her strength, her sacrifice, and her right to remain here unapologetically and with her dignity.

  Creativity to me means turning your emotions, memories, and ideas into somthing others can see or feel. It's expressing a part of yourself in a way that only you can.
