Strung up by Envy

Marie S.

I used wood, gloss, tinted gloss, acrylic, nails, aluminum wire, cotton thread, and glue.

  • I wanted to depict the feeling of Envy in a new way- in the way I felt it. Through this peice, I hoped to convey that Envy isn't just something at the bottom of your gut. It can control you. You can act out of Envy. Here, I intended to use the artistic drill of nuerographics to depict someone envious. The strings are meant to represent their Envy, outside of their control. The string also weaves together and creates the guidelines of the face, which is itself looking at something jealousy. They are now more Envy than reason. I used the color red as the backround because red is such a passionate, angry color. I soured it to Envy by adding some black and purple. Overall, this peice is supposed to represent someone controlled entirely by their Envy toward others.

  • I believe the material world is thick strips, woven together into what we perceive directly. Creativity is diving into the gaps between, and bringing my findings to the surface. My picture of Envy isn't how it appears usually. But I know I have made something people immediately recognize.
