The Haunted Pumpkin

Ratana S.

Paint, Chipboard, Foil, Latex Caulking, Wrappers, Hot Glue, Masking Tape, Pumpkin Seeds

  • As I made this piece, my thoughts revolved around how Halloween felt as a child. Carving pumpkins, eating candy, then having a sugar rush. I captured this by envisioning myself as a carved pumpkin, throwing up over the bag of candy. I held balance and detail by making this piece fairly large: 26 inches by 10 inches. My process, a container and a chipboard paper bag. Along with masking tape and foil creating, “throw up” covered in latex caulking, paint and pumpkin seeds I grew from my childhood. I added strings of “guts” from hot glue covered in latex caulking and paint. Then, cut a face and painted on my pumpkin using leftover pumpkin decor from last year (2024). Finally, I tore candy wrappers, filled them with paper to add structure, and covered my chipboard paper bag.

  • Creativity to me, means being able to create an image in the mind and bringing it to life. Whether a project is a, painting, dance, structure, etc. Creativity means being able to work with what you have to make something great, different or inspiring.
