the river does not stop to mourn the fallen branch

Arvind V.

  • This piece, the second in a suite exploring how cultures evolve, is inspired by Chinua Achebe’s novel, Things Fall Apart. It reflects on how efforts to preserve tradition can, paradoxically, erode the very values they seek to protect. Rather than celebrating change or condemning tradition, the music examines the tension between continuity and transformation. It asks listeners to consider how their own cultural identities might adapt, resist, or be reshaped over time. Should important traditions remain static, or does culture necessitate change in response to its environment?

  • In music, I view creativity as the conscious choices made to convey a message, on that is often abstract and beyond words, through sound.
