The Shape of Tenacity

White Conte on Black Paper

  • In this study, I examined how light is affected by a restricting object like a mesh. In order to emphasize the light, I used white conte on black paper. Through a mesh cloth, my light spills onto my sketchbook: soft and delicate, yet strong. Although one may think of the mesh cloth as a restricting force, it is also something that shapes the light into new, interesting patterns. The light represents how my creativity shines through despite my struggles.

  • To me, creativity is a way to synthesize our lived experiences with the shared experiences with others. Creating art is my way of connecting with others through my thoughts and emotions.
