My work explores how the sound of the harp can create emotion, color, and movement. Toccata by Guillaume Connesson is a virtuosic modern composition. I was drawn to the way the harp can shift from delicate melodies to energetic rhythms. During the process of learning this piece, I focused on intentionally shaping expression and dynamics, experimenting with tone, articulation, and contrast in all of the phrases. The piece’s energetic nature also pushed me to expand my technical and expressive capabilities and showed the vibrant, percussive side of the harp that audiences don’t usually get to experience. I hope viewers take away the sense of motion and brilliance in this piece. I believe that Toccata brings modern music to life in a way that is accessible to many people, because of its energy and vitality.

Creativity means exploring ideas beyond what’s written on the page. It is the freedom to shape sound into emotion. With the harp, I am able to let my imagination take over and my expression guide my playing. I believe that my work can bring music to life through color.
