What I saw on TV

Temi O.

Oil Pastels, Watercolors

  • The idea for this piece came to me when my sister sent me a photo of me crying as a baby. I would only stop crying when a song from Sid the Science Kid would play. I saw an episode on a store TV and thought the characters looked scary, which is why the character on screen looks distorted. I wanted to portray my older self holding my younger self whilst being hypnotized by the music flowing from the television. I used oil pastels and watercolors because they reminded me of the art materials I used as a kid. I added bright colors from my past and darker colors for the background of my present self, showing the differences in innocence and how I have changed.

  • Creativity to me is authenticity. Everyone has something special to them, so people expressing their own uniqueness, whether it's creating visual pieces or making jams, is what makes creativity so very valuable. It's an exciting adventure exploring people's different processes, which creates a long chain of inspiration for others.
