Canon digital camera - Adobe Photoshop

  • My name is Shouq, a senior at OIHS. My mom used to take photos of me and my siblings using a camera. And at a young age I became interested in photographing places and people around me. The person in this photo is Malak. I met her this year when school started. While we were taking photos, Malak stopped to fix her hijab, and I took a few shots in that unposed moment. Later, I realized that the most iconic photos were the ones I took when she wasn’t paying attention. I used Adobe Photoshop to remove distractions, adjust lighting, and made it black and white. I think this photo is iconic because it is original and meaningful. It uses angles, contrast, shadows, story, and centered. Its message speaks up for women who face challenges because of the hijab, and it makes me feel connected to her in a way.

  • Photography is the biggest part of my creativity because, through photography, I can show how I view the world, tell stories without speaking, and connect with people through the images I create. Being creative is my sense of freedom, and photography is the way I express it.
