... breathe / A Simple Life
"… breathe” and “A Simple Life” are two separate poems that both encompass the theme of life. When writing these poems, I wanted to show my own interpretations of this rather subjective topic.
I Pledge Allegiance
My artwork is a collection of two poems that detail the experiences I and many others have had as an immigrant living in the United States of America. I've personally always felt that I didn't quite belong here in this country, a feeling that in the past years has only grown stronger as I and my people have been shunned and assaulted.
a 2017 summer in thailand. addiction [america]. the parallels.
When I first started writing poetry, I always found myself writing my way back to origins, to my childhood, and to all the things that shaped me to be the person I am today. So I figured, if I was going to end up back at the start, why not take you along for the ride?
Perspective
I wanted to make a perspective piece in which the reader would think one thing in the beginning but then the ending would change their thoughts from before.
Truth and Purpose
Every poem that I write starts with a thought, an observation, or a question. Writing, especially poetry, helps me decipher the complexities of the world.
Small World
The story features a dystopian setting due to climate change, which is a pressing issue in our world today.
Longing for Savory
“Longing for Savory” follows a young Chinese American’s denial, rejection, and eventual acceptance of their identity, mirrored by their relationship with their parents and culture.
Oak
My pieces are my experiences and my expression. An outlet to share my stories with the hope of somebody reading what I write or hearing what I say to know that I see you, I feel you I share your struggle. I tend to write a lot about my hardships through my life and the hardships of my family and the people in my community.
A Goal at Last
Every four years, I always look forward to watching the FIFA World Cup. As an event that brings together six continents, I love how a simple sport can create a sense of community.
metamorphosis
My poem "metamorphosis" is a commentary on love. In my poem, "metamorphosis," two teenagers share a fragile, fabricated love. One that testifies to their immaturity and age.
Case of the Stolen Christmas Card
This story is based on a memory my grandmother related to me from her childhood in Taiwan in the 1950s. She told me that at the time, Taiwan did not make its own greeting cards, so the cards that were sent from America were very previous.
Figurines of Clay
Stories and poetry are a reflection of the world I live in. Stories that address and illustrate the world we live in are the most powerful to me, and I try to create writing that reflect the realism of our society.
The Grain of Sand
This is a poem I did in the same way as the french poet Francis Ponge in his book of poems ; le "Partit pris des choses" which is presented as a form of dictionary which gives things and objects a more precise definition, giving them a fonction and a new beauty.
Dear Mr. White Man
This piece was written to partner with my digital arts piece. I write this letter to the apartment building landlords who invade my home. "Why are you here?" I ask. "Dear Mr. White Man" is the piece I write to the displacement that has been caused by developments invading the community of Oakland Chinatown.
