The process began with a school assignment to make a food themed artwork. This made me wonder, where does our food come from? I knew that a large number of our farm workers are migrants who work countless hours for barely any pay. This inspired me to draw fruits for the background of my artwork, to symbolize the large production of fruits and the hard work of the immigrants who harvest these. I included the poem “La Corrida” by Aideed Medina, who writes about her experience of having a father as a farm worker. As a first generation woman, this art piece is very meaningful to me since a lot of my family migrated to the United States in search of a better life. I hope that my art piece inspires the viewer to take a moment, and appreciate all the things we have.

I believe that creativity is an expression of who you are, unique to every human being. Is there a rigid definition to what being creative is? It can be the way you dress, your voice, your room, the background of your phone. It can be a form of vulnerability.
