For my family and me, a simple plate of rice, beans, and tortillas represents sustenance and life. It is a traditional Mexican meal. It is not particularly elaborate, but its simplicity makes it valuable, especially when it becomes challenging and strenuous to afford most things. Its affordability keeps my family alive, fed, and well. It is a blessing if nothing else. The significance inspired me to recreate it through sculpture as an homage to my background and culture. The supplies I used were as simple as the actual dish itself, as I only used toilet paper, Q-tips, water, Elmer’s glue, and paint I acquired from school to make it. However, as it was fun to make, it was just as problematic as I had a broken hand during the process, my dominant (but I did it).

As someone who struggles financially, I live a simpler life. However, I make the most of it by creating. I’ll use inexpensive or accessible supplies like toilet paper, water, and paint from school to make something charming. Therefore, creativity is a form of fulfillment for me. It brings me joy.
