The Lighthouse

This piece is a representation of my struggles with depression and anxiety. Sometimes it would feel like I’m drowning — that there was no hope, but of course there is always hope. There is always a way out, only sometimes you need a lighthouse to help you find your way to shore. I am very thankful for my lighthouses, my family and friends who have always supported me. This piece is dedicated to them and to myself for following the light to shore and to happiness and healing. The piece itself is in oil paint, something that I am not extremely practiced in, so making it was not only an emotional journey but an artist one; it was an experimentation, allowing me to not only process my stress and emotions, but also learn and try something new every time I picked up my brush.

Creativity is a release. I use art as a release of emotion and stress, without it I would be lost and even more stressed out than I already am. It is therapeutic to me. Creativity is also an essential part of who I am, I feel incomplete without it.
