猫の目 (The Cat's Eyes)

  • 「猫の目」 (Neko no me), or “The Cat’s Eyes” in English, is a three-page manga (Japanese-style comic) short story about a cynical cat and a bullied child with a vast capacity for kindness. The story has been kept in Japanese and reads from right to left to preserve its cultural integrity, and is intended to be understood even without translation. Through the art of visual storytelling, I intended to break down the changes in human behavior and how it can become influenced by society and its norms. As time goes on, people change - children eventually grow into adults, shaped by their environment and the world around them, but there is an inherent innocence and empathy in youth when the world has yet to leave its mark. In a world where sympathy is scarce, this work strives to emphasize its importance and how it can affect the world around us.

  • Creativity is an inherently human trait -- a constitution and a process that is vital to the mind and fundamental to society and self-expression. As we enter an age of electronics and generation and originality begins to struggle, creativity has become all the more important to recognize and foster.
