• Artist Statement

  "The 3 G's" by Kenji Bunch is a solo viola piece with a unique tuning where the A string is tuned down to G, and the C string is tuned down a fourth to another low G. The open tuning is inspired by old-time Appalachian fiddling, which often uses a similar tuning where a violin's three D strings are tuned down to G. This modern, bluegrass-inspired piece interweaves several contemporary techniques to convey the musical development.
