• Artist Statement

  The assignment for this project was to pick an artist and paint a self portrait in their art style. I chose to replicate Johnathan Yeo's art style. Because we were told to use oil paint for our faces, my process consisted of layering different colors on to the paper instead of blending them to create shadows and dimension. For the Background I first drew a grid and then painted over it with acrylic paint. I really loved the contrast between the fully developed face against the undeveloped background and how they blend together.

  To me, creativity means using your imagination to create something that makes you happy. It is about perseverance and self-expression.
