I wrote "Basketball Pandemic" while reflecting on my love for basketball and its lasting effect on my identity. Eventually, I realized that the COVID pandemic changed my relationship with the game. Through this poem, I wanted to express the sheer impact of the pandemic on my friends and I and our perseverance, which was often tied to sports. I wrote this poem sitting next to my basketball hoop at home.

Creativity means attempting to free myself from my mind, which often leaves me confused and conflicted. By writing, I make sense of the world around me and my own past. Through this process, I can better understand my purpose and how I can mobilize my thoughts to repair the world.
