“Brave Boy” is an example of how youth not only revel in life’s pleasures, but are brave souls who seek to change their personal world. Regardless of their circumstances, they see hope for a better future. The main philosophy in this artwork was facial contrast. By adding darkness to the eyes and nose ridges, and then tweaking the face’s neutrality, the boy maintains the defining “brave” look.

The subtle changes of lines and colors are what create the atmosphere of an artwork. Whether by adding shine or balancing facial expression to the subject, the viewer can understand the context beyond the artwork itself. Using the right combinations, art can emulate any atmosphere.
