Central Park on a Sunday

35mm Film

  • I spent the last summer in DC where I was living by myself. After a few weeks alone in DC I was starting to get lonely and decided to take a trip to New York to see some friends. On this trip I took a bunch of photographs on Kodak Colorplus, my preferred film stock because of its warmth and lively character. When I got my scans back this photo caught my eye as it perfectly encapsulates the lively but calming atmosphere in central park that day. I intentionally kept my friend who is the foreground out of focus, to draw peoples eyes and attention away from what we often would think to be the subject and embrace that sometimes the subject should be everything else. I love the effect that this had on the image as it invites viewers to take a step back and experience their surroundings.

  • To me creativity is a style of thinking that allows me to the upmost freedom and control. It is a full surrender to my own ideas and interests and allows me to embrace myself. My photography allows me to channel this and therefore is the truest representation of me.
