• Artist Statement

  My interpretation of the Jazz standard Chi Chi, written by Charlie Parker. Much of upright bass playing in jazz today involves the use of amplified sound, which can create an unnatural sound that distances it from the music of the elders of the upright bass, such as Jimmy Blanton and Paul Chambers. Having a rendition of just drum and bass breaks down the essentials of improvisational music to the core, accompanying instruments and forming a unique style of conversation between timbres and tones.

• Creative Statement

  Creativity means the power to change the world using problem-solving techniques, which could be as abstract as making some noises that make a person's day better or as linear as finding a new way to solve an equation.
