Colors of the Soul

Annie L.

oil paint

  • My artwork, Colors of the Soul, captures the complexity of humanity as a whole through the interplay of color. The subject and how she is lit up with orange light embodies warmth, hope and connection. In contrast, the violet-purple shadows that contour her face and body represent the hardships that shape society. The streams of light behind her each represent a different facet of human experience and how they come together represents that no single quality or emotion defines a person; rather, humanity is a fluid concept that has both good and bad aspects which harmonize to create identity. This painting is a visual symbol on what it means to be human.

  • Creativity lets me express my ideas in original ways, turning imagination into reality. Creative processes like oil painting allow me to bring my vision into tangible art. It allows me to bring my thoughts to life and, metaphorically, place my ideas directly onto a canvas.
